Research notes, notebooks, and other papers concerning Mayan chronology, and drawings of glyphs and slabs at Palenque and other Mayan sites. Notes compare Mayan sites with those in Palestine and Mesopotamia. Also, the German and English translations of memoirs regarding the two Palenque slabs from the Temple of the Sacred Tree; notebooks written in Spanish and in Nahuatl language of Mexico; discussions of linguistics, 1858; and notes on Mexican and Yucatan picture writing. Other notes on Oaxaca in Mexico, the Hittites of Asia Minor, and prehistoric astronomy. Collection includes sketchbook of scenes in California and Central America; notes on Costa Rica; notes Valentini copied about cliff-dwellers of Australia, Japan, and Turkey. Notes were handcopied from published and unpublished sources; some are in Spanish and German. Other notes are about Buddhism and Hinduism.
